Gravesend is a town in north west Kent and is 21 miles east south-east of Central London. Tibury in Essex faces it on the other side of the Thames and the town is the administrative centre of Gravesham Borough. Gravesend is strongly associated with maritime activity and much of its activity has been traditionally focused on the River Thames and the Thames Estuary.
