How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire County, often numbered among the 'home counties' does not actually touch the Greater London area. It is bordered by Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Most of the population live in Luton and Bedford towns and the highest point is Dunstable Downs in the Chilterns. Bedfordshire has a university, the University of Bedfordshire, which came about from a merger between the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University. An attempt was made to abolish the county in 1994, but plainly the county's residents were made of sterner stuff and Bedfordshire remains firmly on the map.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Missed payments/late payments? Start and continue making them on time

After you've made a late payment, the more you start making subsequent payments on time, the more your credit score should recover and increase.

As time passes, your older credit problems become less important as long as you've kept making subsequent repayments etc. on time.

Remortgage

Remortgages refer to new mortgages taken out when there has been an existing mortgage in place. Remortgages are taken out for a variety of reasons such as fixed term coming to an end – so a mortgagor takes out a new fixed term mortgage rather than going onto a lender's standard variable rate (SVR) – or when a mortgagor wants to get a better rate from another supplier.

Remortgages can also be taken out to release money which may be used for purposes such as home improvements. Click to read more about Remortgages

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

Communicate using the fastest and most efficient methods.

This way unnecessary delays are avoided. It would be awful if you were ready to exchange on your property in Bedfordshire but couldn't go ahead as some documents were still outstanding in the post.

Modern society allows us to contact each other with the touch of a button, be it via email or telephone. If you have a question, it is often quicker to call. If you need to send some documents, an email with scanned attachments can be faster than the post.

If you are using the post, always use the most rapid options and make sure it is recorded or you could risk losing important, essential documents. The nominal extra cost is utterly worth it. It's important to note that a lost or even delayed document can set you back 2-3 weeks, and time is precious in a home move.
