How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Bletchley

Bletchley is a town within the south of Milton Keynes situated 28 miles northwest of Luton, 18 miles north of Aylesbury and 21 miles southwest of Bedford. It is within the county of Buckinghamshire. The population of the town grew in the Victorian era alongside the arrival of the railway.

The town is most well known for being the location of Britain’s World War II code breaking organisation. At this site, known as Bletchley Park, the German Enigma and Lorenz ciphers were famously cracked however it was one of Britain’s best kept secrets until the 1970s, before which all people who worked there were legally bound to not speak of it. It is now a museum in which you can see the goings on of this extraordinary place. ‘The Imitation Game’ is a 2014 film on Bletchley Park and parts of it were recorded on the site itself.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Deal with old issues before applying for credit

Bankruptcy and county court Judgements are removed from your file after six years so it is a good idea to wait for this time period to be over before you apply for credit.

If you can wait this time and your issues have expired, you are more likely to boost your chances for success.

Fixed Rate Mortgage

This type of mortgage has the advantage of you knowing exactly how much your repayments will be each month. The interest rate will not be affected by the increase or decrease of the Bank of England base rate.

The interest rate is only fixed for a certain period of time. This can be 2, 3, 5 or even 10 years after which your mortgage becomes a variable rate mortgage which does depends on the Bank of England base rate, however you can apply for a new fixed rate after this time period. Be aware that the fixed rate tend to be fairly high.

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

Instruct a solicitor even before your offer has been accepted.

If you instruct a solicitor at the earliest possible time, once your offer on a Bletchley property is accepted, you will be ready to get things underway and the seller will see how intent you are on purchasing their property.

By being organised you are indicating to the seller that you should be able to complete in good time and the process will be as smooth as possible, thereby potentially increasing your chance of success.
