How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Little Venice

Little Venice is a small and highly affluent neighbourhood in London, centred on an area mainly occupied by water. There are many decorative houseboats along the canal that runs through Maida Hill. Within Little Venice there is a Waterbus which gives a tour of the canal as a well as a transport service to get from one place to another.

There are some popular places to visit near Little Venice including Camden Market and London Canal Museum. There are also some popular places to eat such as Waterside Café and The Bridge House.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Check your credit scores annually or before you make a major application

You should know what your credit rating is so you'll have a better idea what the likelihood is that your application will be approved and whether you'll have to pay higher interest rates/APRs.

Remember that errors can happen so it's important to check that your file doesn’t have any as they can prove detrimental to your score. Remember also that failed applications for credit will themselves lower your score.

Current Account Mortgage

Current account mortgages are a version of offset mortgage where your current account and mortgage are converted to one account. The idea is that when you get paid, the credit reduces your mortgage sum, so mortgage repayments become cheaper, however the more of your pay you use, the more that the repayments rise to 'normal' levels.

The more your account is in credit, the more capital you'll pay off. You can't normally access discounted rates with this kind of mortgage.
