How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in New Forest

New Forest is a local government district in the county of Hampshire that encompasses the New Forest itself as well as Lymington, Ringwood, Fordingbridge and various other parishes and settlements, such as New Milton and Milford-on-Sea. It's a relatively affluent and beautiful area.

The principal attraction in the New Forest district area is the New Forest itself which offers numerous diversions and is legendary as a wildlife area with many horses – you can see Muntjac Deer there if you're lucky! Lymington, originally an Anglo-Saxon village, is a pleasant and historic port town with a major yachting centre. Ringwood similarly dates back to Anglo-Saxon times and is a market town.

The district has excellent communications as well, from Bournemouth International Airport to the M27 which is to its north east. Southampton Station is nearby and both Brockenhurst and New Milton are on the main line connecting Bournemouth with London Waterloo.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Be APR-savvy!

You owe it to yourself to be clued up about comparing APRs when looking at credit cards: you're really putting yourself at risk if you don't find out how much your borrowing is going to cost.

Lower APRs mean lower interest rates, less debt to service and less to go wrong. And when you actually work out what you'll have to pay out to pay for a pay day loan, you'll certainly think twice before taking one out.

Remortgage

You get a remortgage when you've already got a mortgage in place and you want to either change mortgages, pay off an equity loan or need a cash advance for some purpose. A classic situation is when you're coming to the end of your fixed rate term on a mortgage and want a new fix because of the expense of ending up having to pay your lender's standard variable interest rate otherwise.
