How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Avonmouth

Avonmouth is a port and outer suburb of Bristol situated along the River Avon located near the coastline of the Bristol channel.

Avonmouth includes ports and docks built in 1877 which were developed to accommodate large quantities of shipments after being relocated from Avon due to restrictions. Throughout the 20th century the port developed as a place of worldwide importance for Bristol city, acting as the city’s main port. Nearby places to visit for family days out and fun things to do including Blaise Castle, Bristol Zoo Gardens and Bristol Aquarium.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Remove financial links to old partners

This applies to both life partners and business partners: your credit rating can decrease because of the suspect credit history of someone you have previously had shared accounts or finances with.

Write to your credit reference agency and ask for a notice of disassociation.

Joint Mortgage

Joint mortgages are mortgages which two (or more) people take out to buy a property typically when they live together. The mortgage sum granted is calculated according to 2 (or more) incomes and so is a way of getting a larger mortgage than if one person alone was applying for one.

The other side of a joint mortgage is that all of the borrowers are equally joint and severally liable . This means that if, for example, one person defaults on the required repayments, then the lender can pursue all parties on the mortgage to recover the money owed and ultimately it can repossess your home even if you yourself, out of all the signatories on the mortgage, have been making the correct, timely repayments.

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

Selling? Deal with any issues which are likely to appear on a survey before you market your property

A cautious buyer is more likely to book a RICS home buyers survey which is likely to show up any potential or actual defects your property may have.

If there are any, these may give a prospective buyer grounds either to bargain with you for a reduction in selling price or even to pull out of buying. At the very least you may end up wasting time as a result.

You should therefore call in a professional to remedy any structural issues you may have such as damp – the cause might often be damaged roofs or window frames or leaking pipes.
