How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Evesham

Evesham is a market town situated 17 miles north of Cheltenham, 16 miles southeast of Worcester and 14 miles southwest of Stratford-upon-Avon. It is within the county of Worcestershire and is thought to have been first mentioned in 709AD under the name ‘Eveshomme’. Eversham Abbey is a popular landmark that is believed to be similar to that of surrounding abbeys such as Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Worcester. The Abbey's bell tower still stands today but the rest of the building was demolished in the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

Commercial scale market gardening is carried out in Evesham due to its exceptionally fertile soil. In the late 20th century Evesham was home to a significant contributor to the computer and digital television market.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Pay off debts instead of moving them around

Mortgage lenders can access your information regarding debts you may owe to other lending companies and institutions.

Try to pay off your debts little by little rather than moving them around because lenders can view your activity.

Flexible Mortgage

Flexible mortgages are mortgages in which in the mortgagor is able to underpay or overpay without penalty.

Be aware that you will need to pay extra in order to get this type of flexibility. You should only use this type of mortgage if you are likely to benefit greatly from the flexible element due to the higher costs.

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

Consider booking your searches as soon as you have an offer accepted

If you're buying a property with a mortgage, your lender will normally expect you to book four standard property searches (local authority, environmental, chancel indemnity and drainage) and you are advised to get searches anyway so you have as much information on your property as possible.

Although you could choose to delay getting your searches to space out your conveyancing-related payments, you are more likely to save time on your conveyancing if you do not.

Your solicitor needs the information detailed in the searches as part of their extensive checks on the property you're looking to buy. As soon as they have this, the quicker they can carry these out and the sooner you'll be able to exchange contracts with the vendor, all going well.

Should you or the vendor choose to pull out of the sale for any reason, the searches can be sold on to any other prospective buyer of the property in question.
