How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Lewes

Lewes is a town in East Sussex County in south-eastern England. It is East Sussex's county town and used to be the county town of all of Sussex. It is around 44 miles south of Central London. Landmarks include three sites of special scientific interest - Lewes Downs, Lewes Brooks and Southerham Works Pit - as well as Lewes Castle, the Crown Court and Lewes War Memorial.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Reduce any debt you are in

Seems obvious of course – and always easier said than done – but this will do much more for you than simply improving your credit score.

Stop using credit cards, find out all the accounts you have and determine exactly what you owe on each one and what you're being charged in terms of interest etc. Create a payment plane which directs your finances towards repaying debt on the highest interest accounts but always covering all your minimum payments.
Top Mortgage Lenders

No Deposit Mortgage

No deposit mortgages enable you to get a 100% loan to value ratio on your mortgage, i.e. the lender grants you a mortgage which covers the seller's full purchase price with no deposit required from you.

These mortgages normally work by requiring an associate of yours (often a family member) to leave some money in an account for a set period of time with the account being controlled during that time by the lender. If you default on your repayments, the lender has recourse to the money in the linked account, which the associate risks losing. Another method is requiring an associate to put up their house as security in case you default.

Interest rates on these products are likely to be higher than normal. Click on No Deposit Mortgages to find out more.

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

Selling your property? Complete all the required property forms and collect all the required information and return it to your solicitor as soon as possible.

As a seller, the best way you can save time in the conveyancing process is by getting all the information your solicitor needs to them as soon as possible – your tasks are 'front-loaded'!

Anyone buying or selling a home firstly has to prove their ID to the solicitor representing them but a seller you have to complete property information and fixtures and fittings forms (as well as a leasehold information form, if relevant) and return them to your solicitor along with your original title deeds and other relevant information.

This may seem a lot to do, but once you've finished these tasks to the best of your ability, your solicitor can fully devote themselves to making the remaining conveyancing process run efficiently.
