Selling or buying a home with our Hartlepool Conveyancing Solicitors
Hartlepool is a pleasant town that lies on the coastline of the North Sea. It is situated 8 miles north of Middlesbrough and 17 miles south of Sunderland. Founded in the 7th century, Hartlepool was home to many monks and nuns as the Hartlepool Abbey was established in 640. In 649 St. Hilda was appointed the second abbess of the abbey. It is unknown what happened to the abbey, but to this day St Hilda’s Church has been built in its place.
The port of the town is thought to have been first used in the Middle Ages. In 1833 the port was extended and by 1900 it became one of the three busiest ports in England.
The Middleton Grange Shopping Centre was opened by Princess Anne in 1970. The growth in the number of shops meant the unemployment rate dropped where it had previously risen after the Second World War. The shopping centre is still open and has many common high street stores.

Which Property Searches Do You Need?
Buying a property in Hartlepool may be the largest investment you will make. The high cost therefore should indicate how great care must be taken to investigate if there are any problems with the property and its surrounding area which could reduce the value of your purchase.
To find out if there is anything that you should be concerned about, you must order property searches from the Hartlepool Borough Council. These can highlight if there are any risks such as subsidence, pollution, radon gas seepage, preservation orders, planning permissions and flooding risks.
Therefore we always recommend you book at least four searches; local authority, environmental, drainage and chancel repair. These can sometimes suggest additional searches such as Mining, Flood Risk and HS2 reports. Your conveyancing solicitor will advise you on this.
