What is the Help to Buy ISA?
The Help to Buy ISA is essentially a savings account in which you can save money to purchase your first home. The Government will boost your savings by 25%, for example for every £200 you save the government will give you a bonus of £50.
The Government starts paying you the bonus when you've accumulated at least £1,600 in your account. The maximum bonus you can receive is £3,000.
Once you have purchased a home and are near to completion you will need your solicitor to apply for your government bonus. The bonus must be included with the funds consolidated at the completion of the property transaction.
The bonus cannot be used for the deposit due at the exchange of contracts, to pay for solicitor’s, estate agent’s fees or any other indirect costs associated with buying a home.
