Downham is a suburb in the boroughs of both Lewisham and Bromley and is 8miles from Central London. The area had no houses in it before 1920. It has a very busy, self-contained town centre. Open spaces include Downham Fields and Beckenham Palace Park. Downham Health & Leisure Centre is a very popular local place to keep fit. There are numerous diversions 'on your doorstep' if you live in the area; one being to take a visit to the Royal Observatory Greenwich, which dates from the 18th century and is on the Prime Meridian. It now houses a museum with a planetarium.
