Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire. Bedford Castle Mound, the remnant of Bedford's medieval castle, is a prominent landmark. The River Ouse passes through the town centre and is lined with gardens called The Embankment. The town houses the Higgins Art Gallery & Museum and The Panacea Museum. There are many shopping options and excellent cuisine choices, not least the selection of Italian cuisine, owing to the large Italian community in the town.

Bedfordshire contains the Chiltern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, as well as Woburn Abbey and Safari Park. John Bunyan, author of the Pigrim's Progress, was from the county (born Elstow, just south of Bedford) and actually spent 12 years in Bedford Gaol for his nonconformist views regarding the restoration of the monarchy!

Which Property Searches Do You Need?
When you are buying a property in Bedford, it may be one of the largest investments of your life. The last thing you want is to move in and find that there is something wrong with the property which could reduce its value.
This idea of 'buyer beware' means it is so important to investigate any risks or threats which might affect the property and its surrounding area. By booking searches from the Bedford Borough Council you can find out about risks such as subsidence, pollution, preservation orders, radon gas seepage, planning permissions, and flood risks.
We always recommend that you book at least these 4 searches; from the Bedford Borough Council; local authority, drainage, environment and chancel repair.
It is possible that these searches will flag up suggested additional searches such as HS2, flood and mining reports. Your solicitor can advise you on this.
