How to get a mortgage - or remortgage - in Aldershot

Aldershot is a town in Rushmoor Borough in Hampshire and forms a loose conurbation with Farnham, Farnborough and Camberley. It has a famous statue of the Duke of Wellington, on Round Hill behind the Royal Garrison Church. It also has an observatory on Queen's Avenue. It has strong associations with the military - indeed it has been termed 'the home of the British army - and is where the Gurkha Brigade are based.

Some 1 in 10 people out of Aldershot's population of 90,000 are Nepalese. The Aldershot Military Museum in Queen's Avenue is a visitor attraction and is particularly popular with young children. The Alpine Snowsports Centre in Gallway Road is also an excellent and popular diversion for the whole family.

The mortgage application process has 4 stages regardless of which mortgage lender you use:

  • Approval in principal (AIP)
  • Mortgage in principal (MIP)
  • Mortgage valuation
  • Mortgage Offer

Mortgage Broker Tip

Destroy unused credit and store cards

If you have access to too much available credit, even if you don't use it, this can ruin your credit score. The easiest solution is to cancel cards you don't need. You should never 'max out' a single credit or store card, though, so you should take a reasonable approach to this.

Bank accounts, on the other hand, which are long standing and have good credit histories, can benefit your credit score, so are normally best left open.
Top Mortgage Lenders

Buy to Let Mortgage

These mortgages are aimed at those looking to buy a property to rent out to others rather than live in. They differ from residential mortgages in a variety of ways; mortgagors normally have to have at least a 25% deposit, interest rates are higher than for residential loans and lenders often insist that your average rental income must be at least equal to 125% of the annual mortgage interest repayments.

Mortgagors can, however, also access interest-only mortgages as well as repayment mortgages. Please click on Buy to Let Mortgages to find out more.

Mortgage Broker Tips for the Conveyancing Process

If your home purchase in Aldershot is being financed with the help of family and friends, making sure your solicitor has all of the information in good time can speed up the conveyancing process.

Your solicitor will need proof of funds, ID and relevant documentation where there is a loan or a gift. Without these documents, you may not be able to exchange until your solicitor has them in his hands.

Even then, a mortgage lender may be unwilling to lend where there is an unregistered interest, i.e. the financial interest of this third party, over the property.

As things can get so complicated, it is important to get things sorted out from the outset so your solicitor can get working on it as soon as possible.
