Private tenant? Consider using Credit Ladder

If you're a private tenant and regularly pay your rent on time, you may wish to consider using Credit Ladder to help improve your credit rating.

You pay your rent to Credit Ladder - it's a free service – then Credit Ladder passes the money onto your landlord or letting agent, after which it informs Experian as to whether the payment has been made on time. The data is due to be visible to lenders from the end of 2017 onwards.

Discounted Variable Rate Mortgage

For these mortgages, repayments are calculated using a variable interest rate which is a set discount on a lender's Standard Variable Rate (SVR) (which itself is invariably a set percentage above the Bank of England base rate).

If the lender's SVR is 3.00% and the discounted rate gives you a 1.2% discount, you'll pay 1.8%. Your payments can go up as well as down.

Barnstaple is the principal town of North Devon and a former river port and is a crossing point for the River Taw as it flows into the Bristol Channel. It has a rich history going back to Saxon times and was very involved with the wool trade – its layout and character is based on the medieval period. Its harbour silted up which encouraged the town to diversify into other industries such as shipbuilding, foundries and sawmills.

Landmarks and attractions in and around Barnstaple include St Annes' Chapel, Queen Anne's Walk, the Georgian Guildhall, Barnstaple Castle, the Pannier Market, Butcher's Row. Queen's Theatre, Arlington Court and Lundy Island.
