Repayment Mortgage

All residential mortgages are repayment mortgages as opposed to interest-only mortgages. The mortgagor, typically over a 25-year time period, makes regular monthly payments which involve a portion being made to pay off the interest on the loan and a portion used to pay off some of the capital.

The mortgagor, as time progresses, pays off an increasing amount of the capital. At the end of the term, assuming all repayments are made, the loan is fully paid off. Repayment mortgages have the advantage that you are developing a larger equity stake each month and this can make it easier to get a cheaper mortgage deal in the future.
