Keep in mind your APRs at all times

You should always be aware of how much your borrowing is costing you and look to pay off high interest debts and rather run debt up on items with lower APRs.

A lower APR means lower interest payments which means less cash to shell out.

Joint Mortgage

Joint mortgages are mortgages which two (or more) people take out to buy a property typically when they live together. The mortgage sum granted is calculated according to 2 (or more) incomes and so is a way of getting a larger mortgage than if one person alone was applying for one.

The other side of a joint mortgage is that all of the borrowers are equally joint and severally liable . This means that if, for example, one person defaults on the required repayments, then the lender can pursue all parties on the mortgage to recover the money owed and ultimately it can repossess your home even if you yourself, out of all the signatories on the mortgage, have been making the correct, timely repayments.

Oxford is a city chiefly known as the location of Oxford University, the oldest in the English-speaking world and internationally renowned. It is also an important industrial and commercial centre and is surrounded by beautiful spaces such as Port Meadow. Its architecture is highly varied (some colleges were originally built many hundreds of years ago, chiefly University College) and it is a hotbed of culture and entertainment.

Among many attractions are the Pitt Rivers Museum of archaeology and anthropology in South Parks Road; the Creation Theatre Company in Becket Street - it does Shakespeare but with its own fantastic take on things - and the Bridge of Sighs in New College Lane is always lovely to see.

Oxford Mortgage Broker Insider Tips

Let your mortgage lender know if you are needing to work to a deadline.

  • If you are using a mortgage to purchase your home in Oxford and want to get completed quickly, your mortgage lender should be able to advise you on whether or not this is possible. This could influence your mortgage lender and the mortgage product itself.
  • Taking a mortgage out can be a protracted process, especially since the Mortgage Market Review introduced greater restrictions, so it is important to get your valuation completed as soon as you can.
  • This can be ordered via your bank or mortgage adviser and it can take around 2 weeks to receive the valuation.
  • Please note the mortgage valuation and a building survey are two different things.
