How long does completion take after funds are released?
Generally speaking once the seller has received the balance of the selling price from the buyer on the day of completion, they will release the keys straight away so the buyer can move into the vacated home.
The speed of the modern banking system means that once the purchaser's solicitor has released the funds, they are more or less instantaneously transferred to the seller's solicitor's account, however the contract states that the seller has until 1pm (sometimes 2pm) to complete and release the keys to you.
If you're a first time buyer, you can normally expect to collect your keys anywhere from 9.30am to 11.30am as you are the first in the chain.
