If the mortgagor defaults on repayments, then the lender can look to make up any shortfalls by extracting these from the third party, potentially putting the third party's home, or savings, at risk.

If the mortgagor makes the correct repayments however, the guarantor will not lose anything and will not have to pay anything over.


Rotherhithe is a residential district east of London and is in Southwark Borough, around 4 miles east south-east of the capital's centre. It previously had a long history as a port but has been extensively redeveloped with relatively upmarket housing, with warehouse conversions and new build developments and is very popular with commuters working in Central London.

Landmarks include Severn Islands Leisure Centre, built on the site of the old town hall and St Mary's Parish Church. Street names here after often evocative of the area's past use, such as Russia Dock Road, for example.
