Chiswick is an affluent district of West London and is bordered to the south by the River Thames, where people gather to watch the conclusion of the annual University Boat Race. It is well known for its ambience because of its cafes and hostelries around Chiswick High Street, and there are many excellent boutiques in the area. You can visit Hogarth's House off Hogarth Lane, a 17th century house with a beautiful enclosed garden where the master painter and satirist lived. The M4 motorway starts at Chiswick, making it easy for motorists to access the whole of the UK's motorway system. Chiswick railway station is on the line linking London Waterloo and Weybridge and there are three tube stations in the locale, all of which are on the District Line - Chiswick Park, Turnham Green and Gunnersbury.
