Teddington is an affluent town in south west London, on the north bank of the River Thames at the point where the river ceases to be tidal and is nearby to Hampton Wick and Strawberry Hill. It is notable for having no dual carriageway roads or high-rise residential buildings.

Strawberry Hill House, nearby in Waldegrave Road, is an excellent restored Gothic Castle with a landscaped garden, has tours and a cafe. Bushy Park, in the area, offers a beautifully green open space and there are large numbers of pleasant pubs and restaurants. Kempton Park Racecourse is also close by for people who are fans of 'the turf'.
