Top tips for a Highgate Home Buyers Survey


Highgate is a very affluent suburban area of north London in the boroughs of Haringey, Camden and Islington. It is an area of very large Georgian and Victorian mansion, particularly in Highgate Village, and beautiful terraces from the same period as well as Edwardian properties. It has an 18th century village feel.

There are also some significant blocks of flats, including the Art Deco Cholmeley Lodge on the corner of Highgate Hill and Cholmeley Park, and the two Grade I-listed modernist Highpoint blocks, by the architect Berthold Lubetkin, in North Hill.

The area known as the “The Miltons” east of Archway Road – Milton Park, Milton Avenue and Milton Road – has many large red brick terrace houses.

There are many decent postwar flats in the Shepherd’s Hill area – blocks such as Altior Court, Imperial Court, Fitzroy Court and Stanhope House.

Hampstead Lane and Highgate Hill contain the red brick Victorian buildings of Highgate School and its adjacent Chapel of St Michael. The school has played a paramount role in the life of the village and has existed on its site since its founding was permitted by letters patent from Queen Elizabeth I in 1565.

New build developments include One Highgate in Cholmeley Park which has 2 and 3-bedroom flats built in a period style in keeping with the area and The Winchester, which is a development of one, two, three and four bedroom flats above the former Winchester pub in Archway Road.

Raised levels of noise pollution from roads in the Highgate area accompany the main Archway Road, also affecting roads nearby such as Church Road and Talbot Road.
