Croydon is a large town and the administrative centre for Croydon Borough, lying 10 miles south of Central London. It has a very large shopping area including, for example, the Whitgift Centre indoor shopping area. Croydon has its own restaurant quarter, where you can enjoy any number of different types of world cuisine, centred on South End running just south of the High Street.

St Mary's Church in nearby Addington was established in 1040 and is the burial site for eleven Archbishops of Canterbury. Cultural options include the Fairfield Halls, which regularly hosts music concerts. Croydon also hosts the famous Brit School, based in Selhurst, which has produced stars such as Amy Winehouse and Kate Nash. Open spaces include Lloyd Park and Long Lane Woods.

The A23 and the A232 run through Croydon and the M25 is accessible via the A23 Purley Way. The most prominent railway station in the area is East Croydon, which provides fast services to London Victoria, London Bridge and Gatwick Airport.

The station is on one of the main lines going to the south coast and connects, for example, with Brighton. The tramlink service provides trams which run through Croydon, linking it to Beckenham Junction, New Addington and Wimbledon.
