Top tips for a Chichester Home Buyers Survey
Chichester is a cathedral city (the cathedral was built in the 11th century) and is West Sussex's only city. It is built in a low coastal plain. It has architecture from many periods however most of it was rebuilt by the late 18th century, for example the Dolphin and the Anchor Hotel, and has changed little since.
You can find beautiful 18th century doorways and fanlights in the larger houses and bow-fronted houses on the main streets, such as South Street. Some of the houses around East Street were refronted in brick in the 19th century.
The population increased in the mid-19th century with the arrival of the railway and much of the development to the north-west of North Gate dates from this time and into the 20th century.
There are a fair number of standard construction semi-detached homes from the 1930s onwards in Chichester's hinterlands and there are also modern new build developments. You can find shared ownership as well, such as some of the properties sold in Westhampnett.

If you are concerned that a property you are looking to buy is in a flood risk area, you should consider getting a flood risk report (click for more details). | According to the UK Government's Public Health England, a large area of Chichester (including streets such as Cambrai Avenue and Kingsham Road) is in a raised radon area, with properties built there having a higher probability than average of experiencing ground Radon emissions. If you are concerned that a property you are buying is in an area of raised Radon, please click to visit Public Health England's UK Radon Map. Sussex Police cordoned off a 200m area of Stane Street in Westhampnett in July 2017 after a box of what was thought to be anti-tank mines were discovered by builders digging up a garden. |

A Home Buyers Survey is completed by a qualified RICS surveyor and delivers a visual inspection of the property in Chichester and the surrounding garden. The aim of the survey, whether a Building Survey (which used to be known as a Full Structural Survey) or a HomeBuyers Report, is to identify potential risks or defects that you may not know are there such as cracks or damage to the structure of the property, subsidence, damp and infestations.
