Top tips for a Fareham Home Buyers Survey
Fareham is a market town on the tip of Portsmouth Harbour between Portsmouth and Southampton in the southeast of Hampshire. The town has a documented history dating back to the Norman era.
The town has period properties from many eras, including the delightful Georgian townhouses in the High Street and the Victorian terrace houses in The Square in Titchfield. Fareham has numerous properties built in the 20th century, such as the 1930s semi-detached properties in Blackbrook Road.
In the 1960s, Fareham experienced a huge amount of development and large housing areas of Hill Park, Miller Drive, and much of Portchester grew until there was a continuous urban conurbation from Portsmouth to Southampton. By this time Fareham had expanded to almost encompass the surrounding villages of Funtley, Titchfield, Catisfield and Portchester. Whiteley was developed in the 1990s.
New build developments include the coming Welborne Garden Village development, intended to produce 6,000 new houses of various sizes. Construction started in 2015 and is set to continue until 2036.

Properties in Fareham which are built in close proximity to the River Meon and the Wallington River, in streets such as Titchfield Hill and Wallington Shore Road, are in areas where flood warnings and alerts are issued from time to time. If you are concerned that a property you are looking to buy is in a flood risk area, you should consider getting a flood risk report (click for more details). | According to the UK Government's Public Health England, some parts of Fareham, including streets such as Bath Lane (Lower) and Belvoir Close, are in a raised radon area, with properties built there having a higher probability than average of experiencing ground Radon emissions. The raised Radon area has a maximum radon potential which is 1-3% (the percentage is the chance of a property being built where Radon emissions might measure above the action level). If you are concerned that a property you are buying is in an area of raised Radon, please click to visit Public Health England's UK Radon Map. Click also to find out more about Radon, Radon property searches and much more. | A local Environmental Search taken out for a property based in Lynn Crescent, Fareham, PO14 4FP, is within 250m of an area where there is the potential for ground instability relating to non-coal mining. The British Geological Survey has assessed that hazards because of underground non-coal mine workings in this area are highly likely. This area is known or suspected to contain underground mining for minerals and/or other materials where workings are likely to be extensive. This is not necessarily cause for concern; a house buyer's survey should be considered to test for signs of property damage which may relate to non-coal mining. Additionally, it should be noted that there is always the possibility of excavations that are outside of the scope of this dataset which could affect ground stability. |

Home Buyers Survey - What does it cover?
A Home Buyers Survey is completed by a qualified RICS surveyor and delivers a visual inspection of the property in Fareham and the surrounding garden. The aim of the survey, whether a Building Survey (which used to be known as a Full Structural Survey) or a HomeBuyers Report, is to identify potential risks or defects that you may not know are there such as cracks or damage to the structure of the property, subsidence, damp and infestations.
