Derbyshire is a county in the East Midlands of England and contains much of the Peak District national park, the south end of the Pennines and the a portion of the National Forest. It is composed in large part of sparsely populated agricultural land. Adjacent counties include Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Derby city is the most populated conurbation in the county and Derby is also the main transport hub, offering direct train services to London St Pancras International. Derby is also host to the University of Derby. The next largest town is Chesterfield. There is one motorway in the locale – the M1 – and the nearest large airport is East Midlands Airport, close to the county's southern border.

Attractions include Bolsover Castle, Castleton, Chatsworth House and the National Tramway Museum at Crich. Hardwick Hall near Chesterfield is a superb Elizabethan country house, fascinating from an architectural perspective.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club's alumni include former England fast bowler, Devon Malcolm. Little John, Robin Hood’s right hand, is buried in a huge grave at the church in Hathersage.
